Olafique – A Tribute to Narrative Art
Olafique is my personal tribute to the power of storytelling in visual art. Originally inspired by the meticulously staged photography of Erwin Olaf, this series has evolved into a broader exploration of emotion, style, and narrative. Today, it also draws from the playful symmetry of Wes Anderson, the impossible geometry of M.C. Escher, and the abstract beauty of cubism and geometric art.
On this page, I highlight a selection of my favorite pieces, each carefully crafted to tell a story or evoke a strong emotional response. Below, you can explore the full Olafique collection as available on Fine Art America, where every piece can be purchased as a high-quality print for your home or office.

Dining Alone Together
Dining Alone Together is one of my most personal Olafique creations and a direct nod to Grief by Erwin Olaf. The scene depicts a woman sitting alone at the table, her posture a delicate mix of dignity and melancholy. It feels as if time has come to a complete standstill.
The presence of the cat adds a subtle contrast: playful, curious, yet quietly witnessing the moment. The warm tones of the interior heighten the emotional tension — an intimate setting where emptiness becomes almost tangible.
Dining Alone Together explores loneliness and connection, and how we can be together yet still feel alone. The work invites the viewer to pause, reflect, and perhaps project their own story into the scene.

What Eyes Dont Say a Geometry Scene with two Females
A quiet but powerful scene that revolves around everything left unspoken. Two women share the frame, their bodies and faces almost sculptural in their stillness. One seems to watch over the other, like a silent accusation or a shadow of authority.
The absence of eye contact is what creates the real tension here — the unspoken dialogue hangs in the air. The geometric composition and warm, restrained lighting turn the scene into a delicate psychological tableau, where the viewer becomes the witness to an invisible conflict.
This work is a visual poem, asking the viewer to finish the story. It is about emotional struggle, the weight of silence, and the hidden dynamics that exist between people.

Lost in Red A Staged Story at Night with a Woman a Child and Classic Car
This may be the most iconic work in my Olafique collection. Built entirely in 3D, it gave me complete control over lighting, composition, and atmosphere. Every element is carefully staged to build a sense of dramatic tension.
The deserted setting, the classic red car, and the two figures — the strong, standing woman and the girl in the red dress — evoke a feeling of estrangement. Their poses are deliberately exaggerated, giving the scene a narrative, almost cinematic quality.
What makes Lost in Red unique is that I never reveal what is truly happening. The work is meant to give the viewer space to invent their own story — and that is what makes it so intriguing and timeless.

Judgement
Judgement confronts the viewer with a moment heavy with tension. At the center stands a woman in a bright red swimsuit, poised on a diving board. Her stance is both powerful and vulnerable, as if she is waiting for a signal to leap — or to be judged.
Below her, three men in dark suits sit in silence, forming an almost theatrical jury. Their presence transforms the pool into a stage, turning a familiar setting into a scene charged with authority and expectation.
The cool turquoise tiles, the hard light, and the balanced composition create a clinical yet cinematic atmosphere. The contrast between the warmth of her skin and the cold geometry of the surroundings makes the scene even more striking.
Judgement is a metaphor for the moment we expose ourselves to the scrutiny of others — a mix of pride, fear, and inevitable confrontation.

Olafique Genesis
Genesis is the very first work I created when conceiving the Olafique series. It captures the essence of what I wanted Olafique to become: bold, emotional, and unapologetically cinematic.
This work is available as a free download in my store — so you can print it yourself, hang it in your home, and own a piece of the Olafique story.

Backseat A Story in Yellow
Backseat is part of my subseries A Story in Yellow, where the color yellow acts as a narrative thread throughout the works. This piece captures an intimate, slightly voyeuristic moment in the backseat of a car. The composition feels cinematic, almost as if the viewer is watching a still from a film.
The warm yellow tones create a sense of both comfort and tension — a moment suspended between calm and confrontation. The figures are staged with precision, leaving enough space for the viewer to wonder what came before and what might happen next.
As with the entire A Story in Yellow series, Backseat is an invitation to pause and create your own interpretation of the scene.
