Escheresque in Color

A Journey Through Algorithmic Art

Some artworks seem to demand their own story, and Escheresque in Color is one of them. This piece is directly inspired by the geometric genius of M.C. Escher, who fascinated the world with his impossible staircases, tessellations, and mind-bending perspectives.

Where Escher often worked in monochrome precision, Escheresque in Color reimagines his spirit through vivid tones, layered abstraction, and dynamic movement. It’s a celebration of his legacy, but also a step into a new dimension — one where color and rhythm lead the eye into an endless maze of shapes.

The Making Of

This artwork didn’t simply appear in one stroke. Instead, it evolved step by step through a process I often call algorithmic art. For Escheresque in Color, I combined different sources — from 3D renders to earlier generated images — and repeatedly passed them through algorithmic filters. Each round transformed the visual language, adding new layers of depth, rhythm, and contrast.

The final stage of this process is captured in a YouTube video, where you can literally watch the artwork building itself up, layer by layer. It’s fascinating to see the complexity emerge in real time — almost like the image is alive and growing.

Algorithmic Art as Part of a Bigger Toolbox

Although Escheresque in Color was created using algorithmic techniques, this is just one of many approaches I use as an artist. Sometimes I work photorealistically, other times in comic-like styles, or I dive into pop art, abstract expressionism, or minimalism.

What excites me most is having such a diverse toolbox available. By mixing photography, 3D rendering, digital painting, AI, and algorithmic generation, I can create artworks that range from highly realistic to wildly abstract. This freedom allows me to tell stories in many different visual languages and keep surprising both myself and my audience.

The Escheresque Collection

Escheresque in Color is part of my ongoing Escheresque collection — a body of work created as a tribute to the Dutch master M.C. Escher. I have long admired Escher’s ability to blend mathematics, geometry, and imagination into artworks that challenge the way we see the world.

Rather than copying his style, my goal with Escheresque is to reinterpret that sense of wonder through modern tools such as 3D rendering, photography, algorithmic generation, and digital painting. Each piece in the series explores a different angle of Escher’s legacy: sometimes abstract and colorful, other times more minimal or geometric.

Together, they form a dialogue between past and present — an homage to one of my greatest artistic inspirations.

From Prints to Products

One of the joys of collaborating with Fine Art America is seeing how a piece like Escheresque in Color comes to life on different materials and products.

  • As a large canvas print, it becomes a bold statement piece for your wall.
  • On framed prints or posters, the geometric details really stand out.
  • But it doesn’t stop there: Escheresque in Color is also available on lifestyle products such as tote bags, throw pillows, phone cases, shower curtains, and more.

The versatility of the artwork makes it a perfect fit for both interiors and personal accessories.

Why This Piece Matters

For me, Escheresque in Color embodies what I admire in Escher’s legacy — the fascination with geometry, rhythm, and the impossible. Yet it also shows how art can evolve: by taking inspiration from the past, experimenting with modern tools, and arriving at something entirely new.

It is both a homage and an exploration: Escher’s influence seen through my lens, in full color.
